Last weekend I spent 2 days with Horst Rechelbacher of INtelligent Nutrients. He hosted a seminar about IN (of course!), organic farming, beauty product ingredients, as well as amazing hair. Oh, the hair!
(I wanted to show you this photo from the conference. This models hair was set in round brushes. Fun!)
True to form, Horst was drinking his IN products - I believe it was the
Volumizing Spray this time. He takes a shot of Volumizer and adds it to a glass of sparkling water and sips it throughout his lectures. He likes to show his audience that his hair, skin and body products are so good for you that you can even drink them. Bravo!
Horst has been one of my mentors since the beginning of my career - He founded Aveda, sold it to Estee Lauder and then used his millions to begin a truly revolutionary hair, skin and body care brand - INtelligent Nutrients.
During this two day INmotion seminar, I found this 2008-2009 Annual Report of the Presidents Cancer Panel to be the most poignant piece of info I have read in quite some time.
Understand, this is a
4 year-old report from the
PRESIDENTS CANCER PANEL. (for some reason this link is not working at the moment, but this is the actual link and the following info was taken from it)
RELEASED APRIL 2010
FACTS: Carcinogens and toxins from food, water
and the air expose Americans to “grievous harm”
due to outdated laws and weak regulation, the
President’s Cancer Panel said in a 240-page report.
“The true burden of environmentally induced cancer
has been grossly underestimated. With nearly
80,000 chemicals on the market in the United
States, many of which are
used by millions of Americans in their daily lives and are understudied
and largely unregulated, exposure to potential
environmental carcinogens is widespread,” said
panel members Dr. LaSalle Leffal, Jr., an oncologist
and professor of surgery at Howard University, and
Dr. Margaret L. Kripke, an immunologist at the MD.
Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, in a letter to
President Barack Obama.
The advisory panel placed particular emphasis on the
acute risks of environmental exposure to children.
“To disturbing extent, babies are born ‘pre-polluted,’”
the panel said.
ASSESSMENTS:
The entire U.S. population is exposed on a daily basis
to numerous agricultural chemicals.
Many of these chemicals are known or suspected of
having either carcinogenic or endocrine-disrupting
properties.
Exposure to pesticide, insecticide, herbicide and
fungicide chemicals have been linked to brain/
central nervous system, breast, colon, lung ovarian,
pancreatic, kidney, testicular and stomach cancers,
as well as Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma,
multiple myeloma and soft tissue sarcoma.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Exposure to pesticides can be decreased by choosing
foods grown without pesticides or
chemical fertilizers.
Exposure to antibiotics, growth hormones, and toxic
run-off from livestock feed lots can be minimized
by eating free-range meat raised without these
medications.
Individuals also can choose products made with
non-toxic substances or environmentally safe
chemicals.
This
video has never been more important. Please watch the entire video so that you understand how unregulated the beauty/grooming/cosmetics industry truly is.
What can
you do? You can decided what you are going to put
on your body, just like you decide what you put
in your body. Be the change.
Have faith. There is legislation before Congress to make changes in the 70 year-old (yes, 70!) cosmetics laws. Read more about this
here. Get involved!
