Solar Care

I love seminars and I just sat in a great one about, Sun Care. (I know, I'm a geek.)

Today kids, we're going to learn about preparing the skin for sun exposure.

* How to obtain a uniform, natural, long-lasting tan
* Soothe after-sun exposure

Some of the products that will be mentioned are from Phytoceane. Why? They have an ingredient in their product line that is called Jania Rubens - Its a vegetal coral sea plant extract that is super hydrating. - No worries, Phytoceane/Phytomer grows this sea plant in their own laboratory in France. - The French government only allows so much to be taken from the Brittany Coast.

Phytocéane research has discovered a unique synergy between Marine Sugars derived from
seaweed and Jania Rubens. This association is capable of creating a protective shell for Langerin - a recently discovered protein, the skin’s natural active element for self-defense.

This shell works like a “shield” and protects Langerin from exterior aggression (UV Rays) and reinforces the epidermal cell’s natural capacity for self-defense. This unique anti-free radical active ingredient efficiently prevents the premature aging of the skin for advanced protection.

Marine sugars, found in our suncare, proven properties:
• Blocks free radical formation, the primary cause of premature cellular aging and damage.
• Protects the defense cells of the epidermis (Langerhans cells) and dermis (dermal dendrite cells), from the UVA and UVB rays so the skin’s immune function remains operational.
• Supports DNA health.
• The skin maintains its youth potential.
• Protects langerin on the surface of immune defense cells so that it does not become damaged, in turn preserving the cells’ self defense capacities.

Exposure to UV Rays reduces the skin’s natural capacity for self-defense by destroying a recently discovered protein called Langerin, the skin’s natural active element for self-defense. As the skin’s natural bodyguards against exterior aggression, the role of the Langerhans Cells is to destroy viruses and other aggressors. Langerin is found on the Langerhans cells, and is capable of picking up bacteria and viruses and transporting them to the inside of Langerhans cells. When Langerin is destroyed, the Langerhans cells can not do their job properly. To keep Langerhans cells functioning properly, it is essential to protect Langerin from free radicals produced by UV Rays.

If you are going to use a self-tanner, we believe body brushing is the best way to exfoliate the skin.

Then use a moisturizer, it evens out the porosity in the skin, followed by the best self-tanner in the entire world - mentioned above.

Tinted Conditioner

I used to be a huge fan of Aveda's colored conditioners, up until Horst left the helm. (we Austrian's must stick together!)
:o) Really, Aveda is NOT the same company - get over it people.

Anyhoo, after I was done with Aveda, I tried a lot of different tinted conditioners. So many just didn't have the pigment to make a difference.
I then found Matrix Biolage Earth Tones colored conditioners.
The Matrix people would no longer sell to me once I left the salon/spa because I am a boutique and no longer a salon (long story).
I've been looking for new colored conditioners since. Two and half years, to be exact.

Now, I have found Ted Gibson's Glimmering Gold, Captivating Copper and Brazen Brown colored conditioners. Yippy!
Colored conditioners are becoming quite popular now that folks are stretching out their color appointments, to save a bit of money.
They don't cover the roots, but they sure help that color last longer. So, just use some creative hairstyling to cover those roots and no one will be the wiser.

While I was researching Ted Gibson, I also found that they have a GREAT aerosol hairspray - no lectures on aerosol hairsprays, I know ALL about how bad they are.
I've made LOTS of changes to be more "green". I can have one bad vice....ok, I have a few.
Shut it.

Then I got a tip from Allison Kaplan of AliShops - Anne Hathaway uses Ted Gibson's Hair Sheets.
Since I was already doing the research why not check them out....those Hair Sheets kick ass!

Wausau, WI (May 13, 2009) - Celebrity moms such as Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Amy Poehler, and 20 others went natural with MBeze this Mother's Day.

MBeze is the new natural skin care company that created the trademarked Deodorette, a stylish little deodorant for freshening up on the go. This item attracted Los Angeles entertainment marketing company, Distinctive Assets, who selected MBeze to participate in the 2009 "Mother's Day in Hollywood" gift baskets.

"These trendsetting women are the exact demographic I created the Deodorette for," said Mary Beth Worzella, MBeze Founder & CEO. "They're women with busy social lives and careers who are constantly on the go and want the stylish convenience of looking good and smelling good while doing it."Each celebrity mom received one of the eight collections from the new line, gift wrapped in a sturdy black box. These include the natural Deodorette, Dabber Dust, Body Oil, Body Mist, Roll on Perfume and Perfume Samplers. Ms. Worzella personally selected the scent for each recipient. Original scents are Cruizee, Aim To Be Pleased, Once Bitten, Twice Shy, Ife, Sweet Sanura, Koko Haze, and Me.

Recipients include Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Amy Poehler, Rebecca Romijn, Angie Harmon, Minnie Driver, Elisabeth Hasselback, Tori Spelling, Nicole Richie, Elin Woods, Elisabeth Rohm, Jamie-Lynn Spears, Ashlee Simpson, Nicole Sullivan, Alison Sweeney, Constance Marie, Julie Bowen, Lisa Marie Presley, Kelly Rutherford, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Michelle Monaghan, Camila Alves, and Alyson Hannigan.

MBeze (pronounced embeez) creates effective natural skin care products infused with style and personality. They encourage better physical health, self-expression, and awareness of consuming habits. Made with natural and organic ingredients, all products are cruelty-free and hand blended in small batches in the USA. Mary Beth Worzella founded the company in 2007 based on her need for the Deodorette. She looked for a product like this for years and couldn't find it, so created it herself and MBeze was born.

Turn Back Time

No one has managed to discover the fountain of youth just yet, but haircare and skincare companies are getting close. New products have been formulated to combat the signs of aging, from lines and wrinkles to hair that looks dry and brittle. As skin ages, for example, elastins and collagen are broken down by enzymes, causing loose, sagging skin. The moisture content of the outermost layer of the skin also decreases, causing wrinkles, thinning skin, hyperpigmentation, deeper expression lines and dry skin. But key anti-aging ingredients like antioxidant-rich seaweed, moisturizing hyaluronic acid and even SPFs can reduce the symptoms of aging skin.

Horst Rechelbacher, founder of Intelligent Nutrients, has just launched a certified-organic line of skincare products that combats free radicals, which cause inflammation. The secret? Intellimune Seed Oil Complex, which delivers potent antioxidants that halt unnecessary aging. According to Rechelbacher, the skin shows what your body knows, sending distress signals in the form of redness, blemishes, bags and fine lines that eventually settle into wrinkles. His solution: Stop the damage with a regimen that includes Intellimune Oil and Intellimune Tablets, which are taken daily to create more powerful, inflammation-free cells.

When it comes to the hair, a few gray strands are not the only sign of the aging process. Rushi Tasker, Joico's vice president, research and development, reports that commonly experienced symptoms of aging hair include the decreased production of hair lipids and pigment. "Hair also loses shine, its fiber diameter thins, and it becomes dry and brittle," he says.

A couple of months ago, I decided to grown my brows out completely so that I could have them reshaped into the new, fuller style.
That was very hard to do!
I was feeling like I had Susan Boyle brows. Seriously, if she were to shape those crazy's, that would do wonders for her. Who knows, maybe someone has taken care of that, I don't know.

I have always had my brows colored whenever I would get my hair done. Brow color fades the quickest and since I have been blonde (I'm a brunette right now) most of the time, I always liked having darker eyebrows - It just makes your eyes "pop".

For years I used MaryKay brown waterproof mascara to groom/color them in between dye jobs. Several years ago they discontinued it and after buying up every tube I could get my hot little hands on, I am pretty much out. This got me to research brow grooming products, and there are a LOT of them out there.
Fleur's makes an eyebrow pencil but I never really loved it - I found the pencil portion just too dry though I really love the "brush" end of the pencil. So, I've been on a quest.
Ideally, I would have liked to find another "mascara" that would do the trick, but I just haven't found it.
I did find some Palladio brow pencils (in different colors) that I love, and a clear grooming gel and all are just $6 a piece!
Oh, happy day!

Rare Elements

I need a break from all of the Kinky Curly crazy. Seriously, it's making me mental. I can't keep up with the demand and I need a breather.
At least until it arrives this week and I begin processing all of the backorders.

Leave it to an exciting new line for me to talk about.
Enter....Rare Elements.
This luxe line hails from Beverly Hills though its ingredient list is International.

What caught my attention with this brand? I was curious about a haircare line that contains ingredients that I had never heard of. Not ingredients that scientifically are just pseudonyms for petroleum sludge, but exotic plant names like, Kalahari, Marula and Black Seed (IN products all contain Black Seed [cumin] oil) are used in their Pure Shampoo.

I'm also drawn to haircare brands that are designed, owned and researched by hairdressers - Who better to know how a haircare line should perform, right?

Truly great lines are now saponifying shea, olive, coconut oils without the use of sufates - It's about time.
Rare Elements continues the trend.

El' Treatment contains Camelina, Baobob and Meadowfoam, three plant ingredients that I hadn't heard of. Though, I am aware of the benefits of Borage, Avocado and Shea butters and these luscious oils are also blended into this amazing serum.

Their Essential Conditioner contains these unique oils: Cupuacu Butter, Phulwara and Abyssinian.

Of course, Rare elements is sulfate free and uses no synthetic silicones or parabens.
The fragrance is all natural and this brand is fantastic for color preserving and shine enhancing.

Without all of the bad stuff, it is amazing how long you can go without shampooing your hair.....rinse whenever you like, but see how long you can go between shampoos.
