Happy Holiday!

Whatever holiday you're celebrating, we would like to wish you safe travels and good times with your friends and loved ones!

Thank you so much for your business and support, we are so very grateful.

We would like to say a special "thank you" to all of our new customers that have made a conscious decision to either buy local or buy from a small business this holiday season.

And, to you StormSister Spatique diehard  "product whores", albeit online or shoppers in the Spatique, we love ya terrible!

Keep in mind, as we move forward in 2009, we small businesses are not the criminals that got us into this "financial crisis" and we're not getting any bailout.
I'm just sayin'.

We appreciate your patronage more than you know, thank you.

StormSister Spatique will be closed on Christmas day. We will open at 10 AM on December 26th.

Product Feedback

Love the IN Lip stuff and the
John Masters Texturizer... my husband is very hard to please when it comes to haircare products, but he loves it! Actually, we are both using the texturizer... it's great and smells terrific.

The lip stuff is really fantastic. It immediately is absorbed and really has what I'd call instant hydration. Other lip stuff just kind of sits there or is so waxy...

You can't NOT afford to start using this brand.

Shine is Good

Allison Kaplan interviewed makeup guru Napoleon Perdis last week (ya, I'm slow) and he had a couple of great makeup tips that I wanted to pass along.

Mascara first - yes first. Before eyeliner, before concealor, before coffee. "Mascara wakes up the face and makes you see that you really don't look that bad," Perdis says.
Brilliant!, I say.

I once had a client that would put mascara on before she went to bed - bad idea by the way - because just in case there was an emergency in the middle of the night, ie., firemen, paramedics, etc. favorite tip from Napoleon?

"It's OK to be a little bit shiny. There's too much foundation in America." he says.

Thank you baby Jesus for Napoleon.

I have included some links to MY favorite makeup products (hey, it's MY blog) in this post.

TimeOut New York

Holidays in NY. Design snob? Not us, we just like beautiful product.
Thank you TimeOut New York!

Panpuri if they would just allow me to sell online. Ugh!

Thursday, December 18, 2008

We do a lot of shipping here at StormSister Spatique. Though store sales are creeping up on our online sales, online sales are still in the lead.
European sales have increased about 10% this past year. I'm certain it has everything to do with the dollar/Euro ratio. Hey, yay! for us.

We continue to improve our "greenness" here, as well. If you purchase from our online store, you know that you don't always get the prettiest box or the prettiest packing materials - we reuse all of the boxes and packing materials that our products are shipped to us in. So, they aren't always pretty, but all of the goodies inside certainly are!

Most of our packaging popcorn is now the recyclable kind that is made out of corn. My son Bailey says they taste like puffed popcorn, but without the salt.
OK, I've tried them too, and he's right.
We are not advocating that you try them, of course. I simply have an odd curiosity to taste things that aren't always intended to be edible. No, I have not discussed that with my therapist.

Anyhoo, we only have one vendor remaining that is shipping with the old foam popcorn/peanuts but we're putting the heat on them to make the switch. Everyone else is on the eco-friendly path with their packaging.

This just in!
Just as I was ready to post this blog entry, I got an email from the last vendor to make the switch to biodegradable packing peanuts. All I have to do now is request them when I place my orders. Bravo!

We ship everywhere, by the way.

Hair Brushes

It's no secret that I LOVE Olivia Garden hair brushes. I used them my entire career as a hairdresser and now I sell them in my Spatique.

How excited was I when my favorite brush company went "green" and made a fantastic brush even better by designing them with bamboo handles? Brilliant!

Did you know that bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant in the world? Yes siree, tis.
The bamboo handled brushes still have the same ceramic ionic properties, they just have the addition of that lovely eco-friendly handle.
Ceramic ionic technology helps hair dry faster. Once ceramic is heated the temperature stays constant and even compared to metal or plastic and the "ionic" portion of the brushes has something to do with negative ions and static and some other scientific mumbo jumbo.
Hey, I'm just a girl who knows this stuff works. Don't ask me the science around it.

Hair dries faster and is softer and smoother, that I can tell ya.

I remember when one of my product reps came in several years ago and wanted me to try this new technology. It started with blow dryers and I was very skeptical. She left me with the dryer and I used it on my next client. Her hair dried in half the time and her hair was so smooth and soft! I was wondering about the whole "power of suggestion" sales technique, but then the client commented on how quickly her hair dried and I hadn't even told her! Sold!

So, needless to say, after that experiment, if it was "ceramic and ionic" I used it. Whether a blow dryer, hair brush, you name it.
Let's review. Bamboo, good. Ceramic Ionic, good. Olivia Garden hair brushes? The best!

2 New Soaps

Two new scented soaps from Pre de Provence.

Ginger Root and Green Tea.

Pre de Provence uses shea butter in each of their products. That is one unique characteristic of this French brand.
Shea butter makes for an especially creamy bath.

They are worth every penny of their $7 price tag. What, you think that's expensive?! Oh sweet cheeks, put on your big girl panties, I have organic soap bars by Panpuri that will set you back $16! And trust me, they are worth every cent.
If you cannot afford the addiction, don't splurge because you cannot give them up.

I don't know Everything

I love it when my clients teach me something.

Tinted moisturizers aren't anything new. I was always a big fan of the one from Aveda, just lovely.

I had a client in my store the other day who mixes her favorite Phytoceane moisturizer and Fleur's foundation. She wanted a tinted moisturizer and didn't want to purchase a separate product and so she mixed them. It makes sense. You favorite moisturizer + your favorite foundation = tinted moisturizer.

Doh! I never even thought of that!

It's dry here in MN, so give it a whirl.

FQC Gets It Right!

I have been a French Quarter Candle fan for about 7 years or so.
They have gone through some packaging changes that I haven't always been that thrilled with. But, I have been patient and expressed my disappointment when I wasn't happy.

The new holiday candles just arrived. They are bigger, 11 oz and they went back to my favorite design; round tumbler, wax seal and organza bag. Just lovely and elegant. I'm certain you will be pleased as well.

Remember, soy doesn't burn as hot as paraffin, so you can use the warm oil as a body lotion or massage oil.

Time for a Treat

The sweet solution to dry skin, Treat.

The philosophy of Treat Beauty is simple: find nature's most beneficial active natural and organic food ingredients and craft them into products that are good for the skin.
Inspired by nature's most delicious ingredients, Treat uses food grade antioxidant and vitamin rich butters and oils that are the best nature has to offer. They believe you should never put anything on your body you are not willing to put in it. (Sounds a little INish.)

Nature offers many ingredients that are soothing and beneficial to dry skin. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins these ingredients can help to heal dry, sensitive and aging skin.

If you are currently using a lip scrub, check the ingredients. Most lip scrubs contain petroleum in some form. Not Treat. Treat uses 100% natural sugar, shea butter, sweet and tart lemon essential oils in theirs.

Oh, and those bath that is just what your skin needs this time of year!

Scrub Your Butt

As in Scrub Your Butt Soap Co., though if you need a good butt scrubbin' this line will certainly do the trick!

My favorite? The Ash Wash, of course.

The eye bags and neck wraps are also very nice and smell lovely. They are handmade. All Scrub Your Butt products are local and made right here in MN.

I am really doing my best to find great quality boutique lines that are made close to home. Stay tuned.

And the winner is......PEZ!

It's official. The new StormSister Spatique candy is PEZ!

I have been searching for a new candy for weeks. I have spent more time Googling candy than I care to admit. Ugh!
I was going to purchase a new flavor of candy from the same company that I have been buying from for the past two years, but Wagner Match has horrible customer service. It's a blessing though, because I have found PEZ and who doesn't like PEZ?!

Why PEZ, you ask?

Well, if you know the background of how I got the name of my store - When my sister and I had a spa/salon together, we had a client who called us the Storm Sister's. My last name is Sturm and Sturm means "storm" in German.
Anyhoo, my family is orginally from Austia and PEZ is from Austria. Hello!? It was meant to be!

(Ok PEZ corporation, hopefully you will read this blog post and I will never have to purchase your wonderful candy again. hint, hint. Ok, "never have to purchase" may be reaching a bit, but you'd be mighty fancy if you sent me some. Gratis.)

So, what does PEZ mean for you? Well, when you visit my storefront you may enjoy PEZ while you shop. And, when you shop online, your order will include PEZ. That way you may enjoy PEZ while you unpack your lotions and potions.

Retail is fun!

About OPI

OPI has finally followed the lead of SpaRitual and taken out the DBP, Toluene and formaldehyde of their nailcare line. Good work OPI, took ya long enough.

No, I will not be carrying OPI. SpaRitual is entirely too forward-thinking and eco-friendly for me to go with another nailcare line. I love you, SpaRitual.

Don't forget, keep your polishes and nail treatments in the fridge, they'll last longer.

Biz Buzz

In the blood bath that is retail right now, it is GREAT to be talked about......I'm just sayin'.
StormSister + StyledLife = travel? @

"Travel" she asks? Yes Allison, we're getting our toes wet. Those Timothy Han travel candles are rockin'.

STYLEDLIFE + StormSister Spatique = ...........Allison Kaplan, you'll be the first to know.

A Toot

Thanks to Kevin Quinn and his STYLEDLIFE staff for a great Black/Fun Friday @ their Galleria location! The Timothy Han candles were a hit and Patti Merna was the winner of the $250 Intelligent Nutrients gift basket. Yay Patti!!

I think it was quite ironic that I also got a mention yesterday in Allison Kaplan's Pioneer Press article about Intelligent Nutrients. I'm a firm believer that there are no accidents. Thanks Ali!

And finally, a little toot from an online client:

Hi there,

just wanted to let you know that i received my order today, and thank you so much for the quick delivery and great customer service :-)
all the best,

Pia - Denmark

A List

Here is a list of all of the recent Intelligent Nutrients press.

I believe this answers my earlier question as to HOW the Europeans are finding out about this line, considering how many orders I get from them.
There are several European publications here. Well, of course there are. Horst gets IT! As well as our neighbors across the pond. ;o)

Happy Happy Joy Joy

Just heard from Martha D. in WI and she is lovin' her IN Hair Treatment.

And my favorite - Hi Becky! Hope all is well with you. This is Nicola V. (from NYC) I discovered your online store last year when searching for Phytoceane Products and it has been love ever since.) We have also spoken a handful of times and you have given me some great skin care suggestions.) Hope this refreshes your memory. Anyway, I have been on your web site very recently and I like the changes you have made. It looks good.

I really try to be modest, but sometimes it is just so hard.
Hey, it's my blog so I can toot my own horn now and then. I'm just sayin'.

SpaRitual Protein Boost Nail Fortifier

I love it when clients tell me "You have to get this!" "It's the best treatment for dry, brittle nails."

I thought I had all the nail care that I needed here in the Spatique, clearly not.

And, considering the 1st week I began to carry it I sold out, I guess it's pretty groovy stuff.

I don't have brittle nails, so I have no need to use this. But, I LOVE other SpaRitual products, so if you're looking for a recommendation, I would say this would be it.

When I worked in the salon/spa, I loved Nailtiques. Has anyone tried both? If so, let me know which you like best and why.

These All Cotton Night Gloves are replacing the Moisture Mitz.

Why? They are less expensive and made in the US.

Apply your favorite, thick hand cream (we love Pre de Provence Organic 100% Shea Butter) and wear overnight.
Wear periodically to keep hands soft or wear a few nights, consecutively, to heal cracked hands.

We promise, when used with the Shea butter, this works!

IN USDA Certified Organic Hair and Scalp Treatment Oil

This is one of my favorites of the new IN haircare products.

Personally, EVERYONE needs to own this and you need to bring it with you to your hair appointments. Especially if you have any type of color treatment done.

Talk to your hairdresser and ask them if they will give you this treatment before your hair color. Be prepared for an additional fee, of course.

Once a hairdresser, always a hairdresser I believe. I divorced a lot of clients to open up StormSister Spatique. But, I still have a handful that simply wouldn't allow it or maybe I just couldn't give them up, who knows. Anyhoo, I'm still coloring, cutting and waxing a select few and they are the willing victims to my product experiments.

I have been giving my hair clients this treatment since this product arrived. It is simple, a few pumps of the oil in my hands and in their hair, near the scalp. Then a few minute scalp massage. Who wouldn't like that and trust me, you'll pay extra and not even bat an eye.

At first, you will be aware and love the smell. This oil is scented with the USDA Certified Organic Restore Aromatic, and it's divine.

Then, that scalp massage is going to make you drool. That's about all you need to know.

The rest is really just important to your hairdresser.

Once your scalp has been massaged, simply go ahead and apply the color. Process color and shampoo as usual. The lather will be so creamy and rich.
It is amazing how the hair feels after this treatment and color. Cut and style hair. I promise everyone is going to be pleased at the results.

I can't imagine that this oil wouldn't be simply perfect for any kind of scalp problem, as well. I am waiting to hear back from a few people who are using it for that very reason, though I would like to have a few more guinea pigs. Contact me and I will send you home with a sample.

Don't get me wrong, this oil isn't just for your hairdresser. Have your mate give you a scalp massage with this hair treatment, as well. Leave in for a while and then shampoo out. Style as usual. Tell me that wasn't the creamiest shampoo experience you have ever had! Simply luscious.

70% v 100%

There are two INtelligent Nutrients shampoo's, the Total Body Cleanser for Hair and Body.

Lots of questions about these two products and one isn't even out yet. I understand.
I'm going to try to answer all of the questions that have been posed to me up to this point.

The 70% Organic Shampoo is 70% organic versus the rest of the IN products being 100% certified organic. There are simply some ingredients that just are not yet available with the USDA Organic certification ye. The other 30% that is not organic in the 70% Organic Shampoo and 70% Organic Hair Treatment is still GMO-free 100% plant ingredients.

The 70% products were designed for color treated hair and though that is the reason they were designed, some of us just couldn't wait and we are using the Total Body Cleanser with great results. Personally, if your hair is highlighted and blonde, you can use the Total Body Cleanser until the 70% gets here - I should have it in by the 10th of November, by the way.

If you are a bottle red-head, brunette or any other color, for that matter, I would suggest you wait until the 70% arrives in November - For optimum color-retention results.

I don't wait well and if you don't want to either, give the Total Body Cleanser a whirl. If you don't love it for your locks, use it for the rest of you. Remember, it is for your bod as well.

I have been told by the IN brass that the 70% is more gentle (thus being better for color treated hair) than the Total Body Cleanser.

I am curious about this because my hair feels great and it doesn't seem to be an issue, the TBC . My hair is very thick and has loads of highlights in it. I do have to say though, I am not Suzie Q. America who shampoo's her hair everyday either.

Neither should you, for that matter, but that has been another blog all-together. I'm just sayin'.

There are several major differences with the ingredient lists of these two shampoo's. Keep in mind I am not a scientist, but a hairdresser, and I will do my best to explain these differences.

The TBC contains, among other plant-based 100% certified organic ingredients, coconut, sunflower, sesame and Jojoba oils. Now, I do know that there is a way to saponify oils, this is just getting into an area that I don't belong in.

That is one note in regard to the TBC that is very interesting. It needs A LOT of water to get sudsy and then those bubbles are simply the most luxurious feeling I have ever felt in a shampoo.

It kind of reminded me of the Alterna White Truffle Oil shampoo, but even better.

Remember, we Americans have a love of lather and we have been seduced into thinking that we are not getting clean without lots and lots of bubbles. It's bunk people, plain and simple. All of those bubbles are chemical surfactants (sodium lauryl and sodium laureth sulfates) that are simply stripping our skin of its protective barrier.

The 70% Hair Cleanser contains, among other plant ingredients, 100% non-toxic Plant-based cleansers, organic glycerin and organic coffee seed oil.

So, there are some key ingredient differences with these two products and we will simply have to be patient to compare the two shampoos. I'll keep you posted.

One side note. I have had one client with bleached-blonde hair that sampled the Total Body Cleanser and though she just loved both the smell and how her hair felt, she cannot get used to the low-suds factor. Some of you simply may not be able to get over this. It's a reality and a pity.
Remember the Intelligent Nutrients mantra: Everything we put in and on our bodies must be nutritious and safe.
It really is that simple.

Nail Polish Tip

I get quite a few people asking if the SpaRitual polish lasts longer than other polishes and if that is why I carry it.

Does it last longer than other professional polishes, such as OPI and Creative? No, it lasts just as long.
Though, I have had one client that said it lasts longer for her.

SpaRitual and the above mentioned nail care lines are the highest quality nail care, if you ask me, as far as colors and staying power.

Here is the tip I promised.

Before applying your polish or basecoat, take a cotton swab and dip it in a bit of polish remover. Rub over the complete area of your fingernail. Let dry, and then apply polish.
Lotions, oils, etc., will keep your polish from adhering to the nail. This is the number one reason for polish peeling off of the nail.

StormSister Spatique carries SpaRitual because it doesn't contain Pthalates, toluene or formaldehyde. These are controversial and common ingredients in nailcare lines in the US. Though, these ingredients are banned in beauty care products in the EU.
Hmmmmmm, you should be asking yourself.

And yes, these ingredients ARE in most nail polish.

Betty Beauty FAQ's

Why is betty safer than regular hair dyes?

Betty color kits are specially formulated for the hair down there and include natural ingredients such as elder flower, cherry bark, chamomile, comfrey, black walnut, rosemary and aloe as well as special conditioners not found in current hair color dyes. Our safe no-drip crème formula ensures that when used correctly, betty color won’t run into your sensitive area. Betty does NOT contain PPD or ammonia. Remember to follow instructions and apply to Safe Zone only.

How often should I use this product?

Betty can be used frequently. Most men and women color their hair down there when they color their head hair, usually every 3-4 weeks. Reapply leftover color if you need a boost.

How many applications are in each kit?

Each betty kit has about 1-2+ applications (depending on how much betty there is!)

What if I want to go back to my original color?

No problem. Just use the betty kit that most closely matches your original color (AUBURN betty™, BLACK betty™, BROWN betty™ or BLONDE betty™).

What if the color stains my skin?

Betty color can be easily removed from the skin with a soapy washcloth. Before coloring, apply petroleum jelly around the outside of the hair line to help prevent staining.

Will the color rub off?

No. Even perspiration and physical activity will not affect betty colors.

Can anyone use betty?

Yes, betty works well on all hair types. No matter how dark or coarse the hair, betty will color all types of hair.

Can men use it too?

Yes. Many men want to cover grays down there too. Men love betty and how safe it is! They also like to use betty on their beard and chest hair.
Our Award Winningbetty™ products are specially formulated color dyes for the hair down there. In less than one year, over 100,000 happy customers are using betty to naturally match their hair above, cover gray or just for fun! Whether you're a blonde (be a true blonde now!), radiant auburn, rich brunette, raven black or want to try hot pink for fun, our easy to use no-drip formula gives you the perfect finishing touch.

IN Chatter

Lots of chatter about the new INtelligent Nutrients products.

I was discussing the IN Volumizing Spray with a client the other day, and she said she loved the product and the smell, but didn't know that it worked better than her current volumizing spray. But, she said something very interesting to me.

"Though it doesn't make my hair behave any better, it is good for me."

EXACTLY! IN is loaded with the anti-oxidant rich oil, INtellimune.  All of the IN products (except for the aromas) contain this amazing oil.

That is the whole point with IN - Certified Organic Health And Beauty. Our beauty products should be GOOD FOR US.
Meeg and I also discussed the IN Perfect Hold Hair Spray as well. We likey very much, but don't lovey. The smell of course is fantastic, it just doesn't have the hold that we are used to.
Remember, we were teenagers in the 80's so we have had a long love affair with lacquer hair sprays. That's a hard habit to break folks.
If it doesn't come out of an aerosol can, our locks will launch into a downward spiral even before we get out the door. It ain't pretty.

BUT, the IN Hair Spray does hold very nicely.....and oh, that smell.....smell that smell. Hmm.

Meeg and I have some bad habits to break. Is there a treatment center for 40-something women/men who have a severe addiction to aerosol spray? Let us know.
I don't know why she needs lacquer, her hair is short. But, who am I to judge.

My name is Becky and I am a hair spray addict. Aerosol is killing me and the IN Hair Spray is GOOD FOR ME.
I feel better already, just saying it. Let's all say it together. The IN Hair Spray is good for me.

There is hope, I'm certain.

Is anyone wondering WHERE all of these used condoms are coming from? Just thinking of HOW they are all collected is so disturbing to me.

Integrity in Skincare

I've been sitting on this post for a few days. Why?

I needed to figure out how I can present it without sounding like a raving lunatic. I should be able to do it here because I certainly can handle myself with clients. Though, I admit I am "passionate".

A new client came in last Friday. She was looking over the store and inquired about a facial moisturizer. From the list of products she told me she has used, I thought she would be interested in the Equavie Organic Skincare line.
She is 52 and has had some Restylane injections in some lines around her mouth, but told me she just didn't feel like they lasted very long. (Once she gave me some dates, I agreed that they hadn't.) I then asked her to tell me what skincare she was using when she received the injections. "Oh, just some bar soap", and then she named some over-the-counter moisturizer. I kept it pretty cool, but I was seeing red! Bar soap? I have a rule: No foaming cleansers on facial skin over 30. And as you may know, I'm not a fan of bar soap anyway, let alone bar soap on the face. BUT, that is my crazy, and I have several clients who love the Marseille 72% Olive Oil soap on their faces, and because I don't have a complaint about their skin, I will tip my hat to them. The "drugstore" moisturizer is another no-no.
Certainly, my new client has done nothing wrong. She had some skincare concerns, she went to a clinic here in the Twin Towns and they went and filled those lines right in. Wasn't that nice of them to make a quick couple of hundred bucks and not give her any tools? They gave this woman fantastic results - I LOVE Restylane by the way - and sent her on her way.

This is how this client should have been treated/educated.
Client comes into clinic. Wants lines to disappear. The FIRST questions should be about what skincare she is using at home. Bar soaps and drugstore moisturizers are not going to cut it - Let's be real, if they did, we all wouldn't be feeling like we look old.
Client needs to be educated BEFORE she/he receives any type of injection. She/he needs to be on professional skincare. Facials at least 4 times a year should also be suggested. Yes, at least 4 times per year with some microdermabrasion treatments. If you are willing to shell out hundreds of dollars on quick fixes, do your skin a favor and treat it with the love it deserves!
Seriously, when great skincare is used and skin is properly hydrated, it is AMAZING how many fine lines disappear. Sometimes, that is all the client really wanted in the first place. But they are rarely ever told any of this. Laser centers and plastic surgery clinics see dollar signs and DO NOT EDUCATE.....or educate properly.

After a MINIMUM of 3 months on a religious regimen of great skincare, I would suggest some laser treatments,. Again, this is a great next step that can erase even deeper fine lines, age spots, rosacea, etc.
After a few treatments, if there is still the need, THEN fill in the lines or have plastic surgery.
Yes, a quick collagen injection works wonders. But, it will last longer when skin is in optimum health. And you'll stave off the more invasive procedures that you may reconsider down the line. Injections and surgery are not fun. Do everything you can before you feel the need to do it.
We have a "quick-fix" mentality in this country and I don't like it. Have some integrity beauty professionals.

I can hear some beauty professionals saying that maybe the client didn't want to use the skincare products suggested to them. That may be true. I have certainly had those very clients in MY store. Some just don't want to do the work - Quick Fix Society, remember? Do everyone a favor then, say no. Integrity stays in tact and the clients that do listen, will respect the honesty.
There is an epidemic of dishonesty with beauty professionals towards their clients. It's plain and simple and I see it almost every day.
If you are looking for a laser clinic, plastic surgeon, esthetician, etc. Give me a jingle. I have great referrals for you.

Facial Plastic Surgery

I get a lot of questions on where to go to get pedi's, mani's, facials, waxing, etc., etc. Thanks for trusting me to refer you to the best!

It's about time I list who my clients go to for facial surgery and who I refer them to. It's no secret and if you asked, I would tell you. But, I understand that you may not even want me to know. I get it.

Dr. Peter A. Hilger, MD

Tell him I sent you. Even I need to bank brownie points for when I need something done.

4 Days In Saint Paul

Lovin' Jen's Radar.

Almost 2 Years

In November, it will be 2 years since the opening of the StormSister Spatique storefront. Yay!

I met with Susan, the designer of ALL things StormSister, recently for cocktails. She's working on a project for a friend of mine. A collaboration of sorts. More on that in another post.
We're talking fonts, design, etc.. I'm telling her what a rock star she is - Our usual conversation.

Then, she drops a bomb on me.

As so many of you know, I have had to tell you, "No, Susan is not taking any new clients", when you have asked me, "who designed your store?", "who made this table, logo, website, etc., etc."
Well, during our cocktail hour(s) she announces that she is taking new clients. Holy Hanna! I think I spit my gin and tonic all over her.

I never in my life thought I would hear those words. At least, I haven't heard them in the last two years when EVERYONE has been inquiring about my designer.

So, Susan Tinkham is taking on new projects. Her email address is and her number is 651.325.6705.

Get in line, kids.

I'm not doing my job.

One of my regular clients came in a couple of days ago, just to do a bit of fragrance shopping.

As you know from a previous post, John Masters Organics gave me a ton of samples recently, so I have been handing them out like my clients are trick-or-treating or something. No worries, you won't have to do a trick to get one - Though, if you have a special trick and want to show me, knock yourself out.
Anyhoo, back to why "I'm not doing my job."

I asked her if she has color in her hair - relevant when determining if she needs a moisturizer, reconstructor or just a light conditioner.
No color, she informed me. Ok, how often are you shampooing? Every day, she replied. Ok, stop the presses!
This beauty has been coming into my store for well over a year now and she hasn't gotten the "no-one-needs-to-shampoo-their-hair-everyday" speech. What!? Shame on me.

I kindly told her that unless she is working in a restaurant kitchen, there is no need to shampoo every day. Start with every other day. Then when that is mastered and you are feeling confident, skip 2 days. You'll will save money, time and wear-and-tear on your golden locks, I told her.
We talked about rinsing every day, if she feels the need to start fresh each morning, using half the styling product she used on hair washing day.
I recommend she try it out on a weekend, just in case the new technique throws her into an emotional downward spiral. I don't want my clients to curse me in the morning when I suggest new things and they attempt them on a day they have an important event. Bad ju-ju and I don't need it or want it.

This trick works for EVERYONE, again, except if you work in a greasy spoon.

We have been brainwashed by shampoo companies, to not only "lather, rinse, repeat", but to "use daily".
It's a big fat lie.

Clearly, I need a performance review.
