The Flying Tomato

Shaun White is one of the reasons I enjoy the Winter Olympics. What's not to like. How charismatic is this guy?! As well as talented, of course. He just makes me smile.

I have a thing for ginger kids. Ever since one popped into my life almost 15 years ago, I have been fascinated by the world that they live in - Trust me, it is very different than ours. But, that is a whole different post.
I especially love a red-headed boy with curls and when it's long, I just want to give them a hug and be their best friend!

Thanks to @thescissorboy, I came across this article.

I think Shaun White would be the perfect candidate for Kinky-Curly.
"Hotel shampoo and conditioner"?! Ick.
Shaun, you wouldn't need to wear a hat (not that you don't look cute in a hat) for a day if you weren't using a shampoo that is too strong for that mane of yours. That's the reason your hair can be so bushy and the reason you need to wear the hat so it calms down that crazy.

I have a shampoo and conditioner for your curly locks, Shaun. Pick me, pick me!
Methinks Shelly Davis from KC, may want to get on this ;o)

Field of Dreams

An excerpt from the March edition of American Spa Magazine.
Article by Heather Mikesell

If ever there was a fragrance associated with the world of spa, it would have to be lavender, a blossoming herb in the mint family that is native to the sun-soaked hills of the Mediterranean.. With its universally appealing scent, it has long been a popular ingredient in soaps, perfumes and other products. In fact, the name lavender is derived from the Latin root lavare, which means to wash.
Possessing a calming fragrance, this violet-blue blossom lends itself to a relaxing environment. If that isn't incentive enough to consider adding lavender to your life, then consider the fact that lavender is also a natural remedy with a host of healing benefits.

Lynne Vertrees, spa director at The LakeHouse Spa at Lake Austin Spa Resort (TX) claims the health benefits range from relieving pain to serving as a natural sleep aid.

It should come as no surprise the fact that lavender is one of the most commonly used essential oils. According to Kayla Fioravanti, a certified aromatherapist, lavender is a scent that appeals to most people. "I have found very few people who dislike the aroma of lavender, and oftentimes, they dislike it only because they have a negative memory attached to it," she says.

"Lavender calms the nerves and relieves mental exhaustion," says spa director Stacey Parks. She also credits the scent to opening the airways, providing headache relief.

Although lavender is better known for its mood-enhancing abilities, it is also beneficial for the skin. It is ideal for treating a variety of conditions because it is both anit-inflammatory and antiseptic. It can be applied directly on the skin to treat blisters, bruises, insect bites, and sunburn as well as acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and more. It is one of the few essential oils that be applied directly to the skin without being diluted.
However, overuse can dry the skin. Overall though, lavender is a natural remedy that can be used to aid with cell renewal and heal wounds. Just as it soothes the senses, lavender essential oil can also be used to soothe the skin--making it the ideal ingredient you won't want to be without.

StormSister says, "Clearly I have more lotions and potions that contain this herb than I thought!"

So glad to have proven my Minnesota mettle.

How do you use it?

I'm always fascinated by the many unconventional ways clients use products.
This is one is new to me.

Styptic pencils for cankers sores? Yup.

Styptic pencils were designed to stop the bleeding from nicks during shaving. Originally designed for use by men, but many women now use them for their own shaving mishaps.

A client purchased one recently and she told me she and her family use them to help heal cankers sores. It makes sense as it certainly helps nicks heal quickly.
I'm not going to wish for a canker sore, but I will certainly be trying out this trick the next time I have one.

Beyond The Sea

For centuries, people have been flocking to the Dead Sea in search of the healing properties that saltwater provides. Today, those same healing properties can be found in myriad spa treatments and products. In addition to being a natural exfoliant, sea salt contains a number of therapeutic minerals, such as magnesium, which helps promote healing and relaxes the body; bromide, which soothes the skin; potassium, which is a natural moisturizer and helps prevent water retention; and sulfur, which helps detoxify. With all of these positive benefits, it is no wonder sea salt is a star ingredient on many spa menus, helping you keep your skin soft, smooth, and hydrated.
Exfoliating Experience
According to Tracey Archer, spa manager at The Spa at Sandy Lane (Barbados), using sea salt to exfoliate prior to wraps helps prepare the skin properly. "Sea salt is very beneficial before a wrap because it removes dead skin cells and allows the pores to open, which helps the products used during the treatment penetrate better," says Archer, who offers several treatments. This treatment is the ideal preparation for pre-tanning, leaving the skin hydrated and silky smooth.

In addition to being an ideal exfoliant, when combined with essential oils, sea salt helps moisturize the skin.Hydrating Helper
Detox Detour
Because sea salt contains sulfur, sea salt can also be used in treatments designed to help clients detoxify their bodies.
