Eyebrow Waxing - True or False

via American Spa Magazine - by Jessica Morrobel

Eyebrow Expert Malynda Vigliotti Addresses Waxing Rumors

Maintaining perfectly shaped eyebrows can be a breeze, but before they can be perfectly shaped, there has to be something to shape. Malynda Vigliotti (also known as Boom Boom), owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar, sets the record straight on common rumors about eyebrow waxing.

True or False: Hair grows back thicker and darker after waxing.

False! Repeated waxing actually reduces the amount of hair that grows back, and after a while, follicles stop producing hair altogether. Hair also appears thinner because it does not have the blunt edge that threading/shaving can leave.

True or False: Never wax above the brow.

*False! Anywhere hair grows around the brow is fair game and fine-tuning the area above the brow is actually the key to shaping a beautiful arch.

*Though Malynda says it is "fair game" to wax above the brow, StormSister's professional opinion is to NOT do that. When the top of the brow is sculpted, the brows look unnatural and severe. Wax underneath. That's enough.

True or False: Waxing is bad for skin.

False! Waxing is actually the gentlest form of hair removal because the warm wax softens skin and follicles so hair can be removed from the base/bulb.

StormSister Spatique's favorite brand of wax is Nufree - ask your waxing professional for it.

Chapped Lips?

A post we for Fizzniche and Smile Inforum.

Do you constantly battle with chapped lips? Remedy this today.

Inventory all of your lip balms and glosses and pitch all  that list “petrolatum” or “mineral oil” as an ingredient. While you’re at it, look up all the ingredients and if any of the ingredients don’t come from a natural source, get rid of it. Buy lip balms with plant-based oils, beeswax, etc.

Petroleum ingredients just sit on the lips. Natural ingredients heal.

Begin your day with an application of lip balm  in the morning when you get up. (Keep a balm by your bed.) Reapply after brushing your teeth and after each meal, throughout the day.

The most important application? Right before bed. Our bodies are healing and rejuvenating when we sleep so give that pucker a little lip nutrition at bedtime.

Reapply after any hanky-panky ;o)

Once this routine is a habit, chapped lips will be history.

Lavender Harvest

Lavender Harvest
One of our favorite brands, Badger, sources only the purest of essential oils from around the globe. Every ingredient they use is grown and processed with the highest degree of respect for protecting the environment, the workers and the natural properties of the plants.
Their lavender comes from a unique stretch of land in central Bulgaria called The Valley of the Roses.  Why Bulgaria you may ask?  Nestled in the high altitude valleys between the Balkan and Sredna Gora Mountains, the lavender grown in this particular region has a higher oil content and richer aroma than any other region in the world.   This valley has been cultivated for centuries, and provides over 85% of the world's supply of rose oil.
Badger utilizes lavender for its aromatherapeutic power.  Aromatherapy has been used for centuries to transform the mind subconsciously.  Has a scent ever transported you to another place or time?  That's the power of aromatherapy.  Lavender has the ability to calm and ease a troubled mind.  When combined with topical application (like in Badger's Night-Night Balm!) the double effect of absorbing and smelling the oil is transformative.  It can soothe a headache, help promote healthful natural sleep, and calm even the most rambunctious of toddlers!   You'll also find this relaxing organic essential oil in  Badger Sleep Balm as well.

"We tend to be organic fanatics.  That's because we believe that sustainable organic agriculture is our hope for the future. Imagine food, clothing, and shelter produced in harmony with nature, without the use of toxic chemicals polluting earth, air and water today. It's easy for me to imagine, because it makes sense."

Proper Eye Cream Application

Proper eye cream application
excerpt from American Spa magazine by Jennifer Barnes.

To ensure lasting results, it’s not enough just to provide top-notch skincare; you also need to teach clients how to maintain their skin at home, especially the delicate area around the eye. National educator and licensed esthetician Victoria Piotrowski’s step-by-step eye cream application instructions make it easy.

*Wash face with a gentle cleanser.

*Use a natural toner to balance pH of skin.

*Apply any other serums to the face, neck, and décolleté, allowing them to completely absorb.

*Using your ring finger, apply small dots of the eye cream around the eye, above the eye up to the brow bone area, and under the eye.
Gently tap the cream in to stimulate circulation until you feel it absorb.
You can also gently massage in circular motions, but be mindful to not pull or stretch the delicate skin around the eye.

*Finish with a face moisturizer with SPF for day or rich moisturizer for night.
