What a week it's been! All we can say is, wow. Our head is still spinning from Tuesday’s historic Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing on cosmetics safety—the first in 30 years!
We’ve seen the good (Congress is finally debating cosmetics safety), the bad (industry is trying to write its own laws that could actually make things worse!) and the ugly (you have to see it to believe it).
A HUGE thanks to all of you who have taken action and helped spread the word so far!
Please take a moment to check out these two important blogs just posted and help us spread the word about the devious plot by the cosmetics industry to rewrite the cosmetics laws in ways that make the problem of toxic chemicals harder to solve.
Dangerous moment: Industry bill would make things worse
Do you want this guy writing the rules for cosmetics safety?
Meanwhile, we still have a chance to get health-protective cosmetic safety laws in place for the first time in decades—and we’re working hard to make that happen!
Our message is simple: Any new laws must get rid of the worst chemicals in cosmetics that can cause cancer or reproductive harm. They must also require companies to be transparent and honest about what’s in their products, and they must include a strong safety standard to make sure decisions about safety protect the most vulnerable populations – children, babies and pregnant women.
Stay tuned for more details about this critical moment-- we’ll keep you in the loop as the situation unfolds. For now, please join us in having some fun spreading the word about the dangerous shenanigans of the cosmetics industry lobby by reposting these blogs on Facebook and Twitter today!
If you have more time, and if you have a blog of your own, please think about spreading the word that way. Now is the time and you are our most important champions – every single one of you who are working so hard to make the world a healthier place.
