Misty

I love it when clients inform me of a new way to use a product. I'm all about getting more than one use out of a beauty/grooming potion.

The INtelligent Nutrients Anti-Aging Mist is a popular facial toner to use after cleansing and before moisturizing.
Now you can add soothing aftershave spritz and ingrown hair preventative to the list. Wherever you shave, give it a spritz!

Thanks for the tip, Sree!

Big Hair

I went to a Halloween party last night and without my knowledge it turned into a surprise party for moi! I hadn't a clue. A few tears and many laughs later......I have the BEST friends ever!

I don't think my hair has been this big since 1984. I heart photoshop. My hair looks like "Lady" from Lady and The Tramp. ;o)

Thank you again for supporting me and my storefront these last four years. I couldn't get to this next stage without having had my little storefront and all of your support. I have the best friends and the best clients. I mean that with the deepest sincerity.

I have a VERY big week coming up. I know I have been hinting and teasing for months. It hasn't been for naught, I promise. Things are just taking a bit longer than expected.

It's gettin' close folks. I'll be in touch!

A Rarity

I have carried Rare-Elements luxury haircare for a couple of years, now.
The shampoo is creamy, luscious, spendy, but oh so luxurious! It reminds me of Alterna's White Truffle shampoo. I believe pretty much any oil can be sapponified, but I didn't know these oils even existed, let alone included in a shampoo.
One shampoo with this creamy goodness, and you'll know just what I mean! I must say that when this shampoo comes up in my shampoo rotation, I use it as a shower gel as well. I can't help it.

Oooh, and that Treatment Oil! One of the best "hot oil" treatments I have ever had. It doubles as a great body oil as well.

The following, from Hairbrained.me, 'bout sums it up.

RARE ELEMENTS is a new generation of hair care that is built on the principles of luxury and performance. Taking a modern twist on century old healing remedies and combining it with the latest technology, we have developed a simple yet effective system that has been proven to reverse the signs of damaged hair. This sophisticated collection has revolutionized the professional world of hair care by developing performance driven products that now replace the antiquated use of toxic ingredients and the temporary fix of synthetic enhancers. When you step into the world of Rare Elements you will experience the international wealth of some of the most sought after natural resources and discover the lasting results and pampering luxury that only nature can provide.

Press for Madara

It's not just me, everyone is talking about the Madara Tinted Moisturizers.

If you purchased yours late summer/early fall when they first arrived, maybe you're wondering if the moisturizing properties will be enough for the up-coming winter.
Listen to your skin. It will tell you.
Depending on where you live or your age, you may need more moisture this winter. I live in MN and I know I will! I have been practicing with this tinted moisturizer on top of other serums and moisturizers and it works beautifully!

ecoSAFE Review

Greenbody Greenplanet receives a great review on ecoSAFE.

Hair: Greenbody Greenplanet Shampoo & Conditioner

Ooh La La! Aphrodisiac and hair care all in one?

Description: Give your hair the volume and vitality it needs with this naturally weightless shampoo. Increase hair density while adding body and control. Organic extracts of grapefruit, lavender and burdock root help cleanse the hair and scalp while keeping them in perfect balance. Color is protected and strength is restored with Australian bush kakadu plum extract, the highest form of antioxidant found in nature and certified Biodynamic Avocado Oil, a natural sunscreen. Beneficial and soothing for the skin and can be used as a gentle facial and body wash, making it perfect for traveling or the gym.  8 oz

Ingredients: Aqua (Purified water), Certified Organic herbal blend of Rosa Rubiginosa (Organic Rosehip), Anthemis Nobilis (Organic Chamomile), Lavandula Angustifolia (Organic Lavender), Equisetum Arvense (Organic Horsetail herb), Tagetes Erecta (Organic Marigold), Arctium Lappa (Organic Burdock Root), Helianthus Annuus (Organic Sunflower) Oil, Citrus Grandis (Organic Grapefruit) extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Organic Rosemary) Extract, Persea Gratissima (Certified Biodynamic Avocado) Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia (Certified Biodynamic Macadamia) Oil, Certified Organic Lotus Bean Gum, Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Australian Bush Kakadu Plum) Extract, Decyl Polyglucose, Cocoglucose, Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Vera) Extract, Soy Lecithin, Sativa protein (Oatmeal protein), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Extract (Vitamin C), Organic Glycerin (Vegetable), Biotin (Vitamin B7), Urtica Dioica (Stinging Nettle), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Oil), Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang oil), Hydroxy methylglycinate (mild preservative), Trifolium Pratense (Canadian wildcrafted Red Clover) Oil, d-Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Geranium Maculatum (geranium Oil)

EWG RATING:  SAFE/GREEN (1-2)  EWG report

Greenbody Greenplanet offers two formulas: Energy and Revitalizing. Each formula is available unscented or scented. We chose the review the scented version of both formulas, which utilizes essential oils of ylang ylang, geranium, and rosemary to create a unique fragrance that is uplifting. Ylang ylang is also known to be a popular natural aphrodisiac! As lovely as it leaves your hair scented, it definitely boosts the chance for romance!

The Revitalizing formula is targeted for damaged or dry hair, since our tester has normal hair, it turned out sleek and shiny. This would be a good formula choice if you have curly or frizzy hair, as it adds a slight amount of weight to it to keep it tame!

The Energy formula was developed specifically for limp or fine hair, and as promised, this formula gives your volume a boost and seems to make your hair thicken. If your limp locks need a power boost, then this is the formula for you.

Mixing and matching is a great option for those with normal hair, select a shampoo in one formula and a conditioner in the other. The scent is delightful, the shampoo reminds us of a cherry lollipop while the conditioners are simply ylang ylang all the way! It's a subtle scent that will last throughout the day or night, with just a hint of freshness that lingers.

Moving Day

As we are getting things ready to be packed up here at StormSister Spatique, we are noticing we have a lot of cool stuff and odds-n-ends that we won't need in our office.

Our sale continues.

The last day to purchase beauty/personal grooming products,  in our storefront, will be Friday, October 29th. After that date, you will need to call in your order to 612 716 5480 or shop online.
Our shipping is cheap or, as usual, we will gladly deliver.

We also encourage you to stop by and take a peek at our stuff since some of it is hard to explain.
Like the super cool steel square, round and rectangle pieces that we used for "frames" and display's, etc. If you are into metal, they're pretty cool.

Here is a partial list of stuff that is available for sale to anyone that is interested:
All of the tables and displays were custom made.
This table, or that table, this display or that display, this Dell 946 printer/fax/copier, a Fellows P-57Cs heavy-duty paper shredder, a bunch of wooden hangers, a Crown crock, a black roller chair, baskets, glass shelves w/brackets, frames, just stuff, stuff and more stuff.

Stop by Monday, October 25th - 29th  from 10AM to 5 PM and purchase stuff and make arrangements for pick up on the 30th and 31st.

Runway Beauty Secret

The one millionth new trick with Egyptian Magic, from Daily Beauty Reporter Blog.

When beauty editors hear about a product that is supposed to work "like magic," we usually have a bit of healthy skepticism. But when makeup artist Val Garland told me backstage at the Spring 2011 Giambattista Valli show (above) that one of her favorite products was the cult classic Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream, I listened closely. "You can put it on your dry legs, on your elbows, on your cheeks, or if you have a burn it's even good for that! I love it, it's my new hot product," she said exuberantly. She put the slick balm to a decidedly more glamorous use backstage, topping the models' eye lids and skin with the stuff to give faces a high-gloss finish. "There's no powder, the skin is just super-shiny," she said of the look. The models' skin was also probably super-hydrated, as this wonder-balm contains ingredients like olive oil, beeswax, and honey. Now that winter is fast approaching, it could be time to incorporate a little magic into my daily beauty routine.

Could it be possible that American women may someday embrace "shine"? My prayers would be answered!

Do You Have IMPACT?

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I came across the following blog post recently, at Ultimate Skincare & Beaute Report:

Recently, I received a new product from ZBigatti to review called Re-Storation IMPACT. Re-Storation IMPACT is a fruit enzyme facial mask.  The texture is incredibly smooth and the weight, a bit lighter than a thick and rich honey.  Applied gently to the face by fingertips delivers even coverage.  This light, rich luxurious and feather-light mud has started to re-texture uneven places on my face after three uses.  After the first application, I felt the active fruit enzymes at work first on my nose.  The second application brought enzyme activity around the balls of my cheeks and chin area.  After each application, my pores tightened up and my skin had an over-all firmness, supple to the feel!

According to Z.Bigatti, this product claims to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and clean pores.  Refine skin clarity, hydrate, tone, and smooth the skin.  Ingredients include Fruit enzymes, Papain & Bromelain, with beta hydroxy acids.  Based on my experience thus far, I believe this product lives up to it’s name sake and claims.
To further challenge this product, I applied it to two other individuals who have pourous noses.  After the second applications, the skin on the nose was smoother by 50% on the male and by 33% on the female.  These results continue to better with each application.  Both participants had extreme cases of acne as teenagers and immediately noticed the active ingredients at work upon application.  Other results were seen after first and second applications!
If you are seeking an active mud that delivers time after time, this is it!  I would keep this in your cosmetic wardrobe as a regular staple  forever and a day.  The results alone are worth the investment.  Everything else about IMPACT is just icing on the cake!
Have a beautiful week!

1's and 2's for GBGP!

And the Skin Deep score is in for GreenBody GreenPlanet - 1's and 2's and a couple of 3's but the three score is for the essential oils, Chamomile and Ylang Ylang. Puleez!

I love Skin Deep and believe it is a great tool to use to rate the toxicity of your grooming/beauty products. But sometimes some plant based ingredients get rated pretty high and I must say that agitates me a bit. I suppose if one were to bathe in a tub full of Chamomile or Ylang Ylang there could be some toxic repercussions.(?) Too much of a good thing can be bad for us ;o)

That being said, I'll take a few drops of essential oils over a few drops of a phthalate laden perfume oil any day.

Improved Calme'

I have been a fan of these collagen masks for about 4 years now. The new and improved version will arrive in the next few days.

What was a pretty good ingredient list is now a great ingredient list.

Madara Video

I wanted to share this video with you, about the brand, Madara.
I was recently on the My Talk FM 107.1 Shop Girls show, chatting about this brand. Their Tinting Fluids are easily one of my current favorite products. A truly natural tinted moisturizer has been severely lacking in this industry, especially one this effective.

Air Dancer

When I opened up my storefront here on Smith Ave.,  I did it for one reason. One.
I am a customer service junkie and after spending my entire life in the salon/spa biz and after leaving that life and founding a strictly online shopping experience, the FEDEX and USPS carrier were not nearly enough stimulation for me.
My goal was to have a cool space, in my neighborhood, to run my online store. That's it. If the public was interested in my stuff, great. I certainly didn't move into this space because it was "prime real estate". Don't get me wrong, the West Side is an amazing neighborhood and Smith Avenue is certainly worthy of the title "Little Engine that Can and Want's To and is Trying."
But, a luxe beauty boutique on the West Side? No, not the best place. I knew that going in.

Well, the public did come, thanks to the press in these lovely Twin Towns. Though, they mostly came from every part of the city but my own backyard.
My clients are the most loyal and well-informed folks I know. Truly. They care and have been the most amazing cheerleaders for me and my vision since the day I opened. I am so blessed and thankful.

During these last four years, it has been a weekly occurrence to have a couple new clients from the neighborhood stop in each week. They come in, shop, and compliment me on my cute store.
I am so very grateful!

Like clockwork, the next inquiry is ALWAYS, "when did you open?" or some variant of that question.
During my very first year of being open, I didn't think anything of it. Inquiring minds, I thought. Maybe they just moved into the neighborhood, I imagined.
But, after year two, it was starting to get wear on my nerves a bit. Remember, these are folks from my neighborhood, asking me when I opened. Being the customer service professional I am, I always answered their questions, smiled and assisted them in their shopping experience, finding happiness in the fact that another person took the time to notice my cute store.

Smith Ave. is a very busy street and a main thoroughfare into downtown St. Paul. There are several studies that state that anywhere from 18-20 thousand, yes, THOUSAND, cars go by each day!

My StormSister Spatique storefront has now arrived at year 4 and I have a "for rent" sign in my window and a kick-ass sale going on. Because I believe in rewarding my loyal customers, I don't have "sale" signs all over my windows as I am not offering deals to people who are not paying attention.

The yellow "for rent" sign is bringing in a lot of new clients and inquiries about my business.
When I answer their questions about how long I have been here, the expression on their faces is priceless. If it were truly possible for our eyes to pop out of our heads, that about sums up their reaction. Utter shock! Some actually seem a bit embarrassed that they were not aware of me for the last four years. I know I would be!

I do take responsibility for not having done a lot of advertising in neighborhood publications, but, after about a year of purchasing ads in local papers, with little interest from locals, I concentrated my advertising dollars on the publications that were bringing business from other areas of the Twin Cities.

That brings me to the title of this post - Air Dancer. (Did you watch a few seconds of the video at the beginning of this post? Please do. Just a few seconds. It won't hurt. I promise.)

We've all seen these Air Dancers blowing in the wind at car dealerships, etc. I find them ridiculous and tacky and would NEVER, I repeat, NEVER patronize a business that uses one. That's just me.
But, clearly, on a street with 20,000 cars passing by each day, so many neighbors not knowing I am here, I should have had one of them to get their attention! That's sad.
Really? Can we not notice a business unless they have neon signs, air dancers, blinking lights, or yellow "for rent" signs in their windows?

A cute, cool storefront wasn't enough. Small neighborhood businesses should look cool, right? That's what separates us from the Big Boxes and fast-food yuck that is out there. Right?

Four years I have been in this space and a yellow rental sign is bringing daily visits from people in my neighborhood who had no idea I was even here. Wow, is all I can say.

You don't have to patronize each business in your neighborhood, but is it too much to be aware of what  biz's are in your neighborhood?

Think Before You Pink

I have long had an issue with how Breast Cancer Awareness month has turned into a money making machine for the products that "donate to the cause'. Especially, in my own industry where there are many ingredients in beauty products that may be linked to cancer.

Many people will say "O'well, the companies are still spreading awareness."
I say, "Talking out of both sides of your mouth is disgusting."

Critical questions to ask before you buy pink.

My girl Lynda offers a t-shirt on her site that promotes awareness, donates $1 per product and isn't contributing to the cause of the disease. Brava!

Healing Touch

62Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I thought this article, on the importance of touch, was fitting. This article was written for the spa professional, but it discusses the important of massage and touch when going through a health crisis, so I feel it is important for everyone.

If you know someone whose health is compromised, consider purchasing a gift certificate for a massage or pedicure or facial. Those are great "touch" services.
They'll feel like a million bucks. I promise.

Is the Brazilian Blowout Safe?

The makers of Brazilian Blowout claim their product doesn't contain any formaldehyde.
These scientists claim that there is somewhere from 8-10% in each application!

Now, from what I have come to understand about science and the beauty industry, they BOTH could be correct.
BB may be correct in stating they do not put formaldehyde in their product. BUT, it is possible that the BB ingredients, once mixed together, may form a chemical reaction that generates formaldehyde. This is a very common factor in beauty products. Ingredients are one thing, what happens when they are mixed together is a whole other factor.

If this is true, this is yet just another example of a beauty company lying to the consumer and proving, yet again,  what can happen when an ENTIRE industry is not regulated and left to police itself.
Did BB know about this and cover it up?

It actually looks like Brazilian Blowout may be exonerated of this controversy.  Stay tuned!

Flaws in the testing methods used by Oregon’s division of OSHA actually cause the creation of additional Formaldehyde that is not normally found in the product, which led to Oregon OSHA erroneously reporting levels of Formaldehyde that cannot possibly exist in the product, especially given that Formaldehyde is a gas. Once again, what OSHA is actually reporting, is the amount of Methylene Glycol in the product, not Formaldehyde.

So, now it's Methylene Glycol, not formaldehyde. Do we want that on our skin? Gross.
